How do I stitch those tiny snowflakes?

I’ve received a few letters recently where you, my dear cross-stitchers asked how I stitch those small 3x3 snowflakes. So, I’ve prepared a small “How to” lesson.
To begin with, let’s choose a 3x3 square, to “place” our future snowflake. Then, let’s “fill” the corners of the square with 4 cross-stitches.

Baby Ursula

Free cross-stitch patterns
For centuries these large, horrible, freak and hideous creatures have been keeping people in fear. And that fear, being warmed by our rich imagination, grew into awesome trembling before everything abnormal. And nobody has ever thought that once all monsters were small and cute and innocent babies. Just like Baby Ursula that one day will become a sea witch from Disney's animated feature film The Little Mermaid.

Who’s this beautiful creature? A fish? – No, it’s an animal, though is called a Starfish and lives in the sea. Sea-patterns: Turtle

Free-cross stitch patterns
As promised, for today I’ve prepared another easy-to-do sea-pattern. So, meet this cute Turtle that will surely become a nice decoration for your kid’s closes or towels.

I’ve used here three colors for back-stitch lines. You can use only one (DMC 310 black), but I decided to underline the body of the turtle with ultra-very dark emerald green (DMC 3818) and the shell with very dark beige brown (DMC 838). Pay attention that the latter is used for back-stitches only.

The sun and the sea... A heat wave and a fresh breeze... Taste of salt on the lips and alluring coolness of the seawater… Well, there’re so many pleasant things to do… And surely, who will care about cross-stitching in such a paradise? – Nobody, but a passionate cross-stitcher, like my granny, who used to bring her needlework casket everywhere, even to the beach.

The Lotus Eater

Free cross-stitch patterns
Sometimes I dream about careless life of a Lotus Eater somewhere on the Pacific islands, life without traffics, hurry, life in jungles, but not that of cement and stone… Well, somebody is already living that kind of life. I think this small frog is just an example.

The piece is a snap-shot from the Soviet cartoon “Frog the Traveler” and was realized for Irina. By the way, the pattern is very simple (only 10 colors and a few back-stitches), so even beginners can cope with it. So, nice cross-stitching and take it easy!

Let’s play together!

Free cross-stitch patterns
Who can cope with the task of inventing new games better than Miss Elaina from Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood? And today I’d like to invite you to have a nice time cross-stitching this cute and lovely girl in a pink-colored sweater.

Why I mentioned a pink-colored sweater? Well, because it requires some experience to be realized as I’ve used here blended colors. What’s that? It’s a special technique that allows you to gain more subtle shades of a certain color or create some effects like knitted fabric or animal fur. More info about blended colors you can find here.
